Wednesday Wisdom: Should we use squads?

The other day I was asked what I thought about squads and because I have an odd sense of humor and my brain goes all different places, I immediately thought, are we going to get pom-poms? I never made it into the high school cheer team. Or are we talking about  firefighters? And we're going to wear those big, heavy, bulky jackets and boots and get on a  big truck.

They then clarified by saying no, you know, like the Spotify model, they've been super successful, so shouldn't we do that too? Well, why don't we throw in tribes, chapters, guilds? We might even wanna sit around a campfire and figure out what we're doing, because naming convention is not your priority.  And I think too many times people get lost in repurposing or adopting the names that other people used because they're famous, popular, they've been written about and gotten published.

At the end of the day, organizations need to call their teams what they want to call them. In fact, let the teams decide if they need to be called something other than teams. But don't fall back on what somebody else is using just because it's gotten noticed.
